What are Dentures & Partials?
A full and partial denture are designed to replace many or all missing teeth within your mouth. These prosthetic appliances are custom made, so they always look and feel completely natural. Dentures offer both restorative as well as cosmetic benefits, and it’s not uncommon for them to last for up to about a decade before replacement is needed. Your new denture can help you to feel and look younger, while making it easier to enjoy your favorite foods.
Why would Dentures & Partials be needed?
The reason you might need a full denture is because you’re missing all of your teeth. Likewise, patients with advanced gum disease may need to have remaining loose and decayed teeth removed prior to fitting them for a denture. Partial dentures are ideal for patients who still have quite a lot of their own healthy teeth in place. The appliance clips onto the surrounding teeth and replaces just what’s missing.
Who is a candidate for Dentures & Partials?
To determine if you might need a denture, we’ll examine your teeth and mouth. In many cases, patients with severely advanced gum disease will benefit from a denture. We will recommend having the remaining teeth extracted before placing the actual denture. If you have an older denture or partial that’s beginning to show signs of wear, we can replace it easily in our office.
What happens during the process to make Dentures & Partials?
The denture process begins with impressions. These impressions allow us to obtain detailed molds of your teeth, gums and mouth. We then use these molds to make the new denture just for you. You will come in for a second appointment to have the denture fitted and adjusted. It’s not uncommon to need a few adjustments before the denture fits perfectly. You should remove the denture each night to give it a good clean and to store it safely away from small children and pets.
