What are Dental X-rays?
Dental x-rays allow us to get an in-depth look at your dental and oral health. We use the latest technology available to you, which means quicker and more comfortable x-rays with minimal radiation needed. X-rays allow us to see below the surface of your teeth and gums. Many dental and oral conditions can only be seen on a dental x-ray, which is why it is so important that you have them taken regularly.
Why would Dental X-rays be needed?
X-rays allow us to see a wide range of different dental problems and conditions so that treatment is more effective. You might need x-rays for checkup appointments, prior to surgery or if you come in with an emergency. Some of the different things we’ll be able to see on a dental x-ray include:
- Impacted teeth
- Areas of bone loss
- Abscesses and infections
- Roots and accessory canals for root canal treatment
- Soft tissue disorders
- The extent of damage to a tooth
Who is a candidate for Dental X-rays?
Because we use the very best technology available to us, x-rays are safe for most patients coming into our office. In fact, even our pediatric patients can benefit from x-rays, since these images can alert us to areas of decay for prompt treatment. We will go over your health and medical history prior to taking any x-rays. You can request a copy of your x-rays at any time by coming into our office.
What happens during the Dental X-ray process?
The x-ray process begins with one of our professional team members placing a lead apron over your body. This is a preventative measure that protects you while the x-ray machine is in use. A small device is then placed inside of the mouth and the x-ray machine aimed at this device. The x-ray is taken and the process repeated for any other necessary x-rays. We will carefully review the x-rays before providing you with treatment. We aim to make the x-ray process as comfortable and quick for you as possible.
