What is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses a series of clear aligning trays that work to straighten your teeth. The beauty about Invisalign is that the aligners are virtually invisible to the naked eye, which means that you won’t need to worry about metal braces and brackets. Invisalign works quickly and effectively to correct issues with crowding, misalignment and even malocclusion. Treatment is suitable for patients of all ages, including adults who want to feel confident about their smile.
Why would Invisalign be needed?
When your teeth are misaligned or crowded, it can be difficult to feel confident in the way that you look. Likewise, it can be difficult to keep crowded and crooked teeth cleaned properly. You might find that certain areas of your teeth are more susceptible to decay and may even develop gingivitis or gum disease. This is why orthodontic treatment using Invisalign is so important and can help to improve your oral health.
Who is a candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is a removable orthodontic treatment option ideal for older children, teens and adults. The custom made trays are designed to fit over your teeth and apply gentle pressure to push the teeth into place. Invisalign is ideal for most patients, even those who have relatively severe orthodontic problems. You may require additional orthodontic treatment in conjunction with Invisalign.
What happens during the Invisalign treatment process?
The first step is to have a consultation with either you or your loved one. We then take impressions that are used to make the new Invisalign aligners. You will be told when to wear the aligners and how to remove them. In most cases, patients will need to wear their Invisalign for about 22 hours a day, though this may vary from one person to another. The trays must be removed whenever eating, flossing or brushing. You will then need to come back into the office after a few weeks to have new Invisalign trays made for you as your teeth begin to shift. Treatment can take anywhere from about six to 18 months depending on your smile needs and goals.
